Housing Allowance


As at 1 July 2015, the quantum of the housing allowance is R1 200 per month, paid to eligible employees and will be adjusted by inflation each year in July.

For employees who do not own homes, the housing allowance will be diverted and accumulated in the Individual Linked Savings Facility (ILSF) to be accessed when employees acquire homeownership.

Employees must contact the Human Resource division in their respective departments in order to access the housing allowance.

Housing Allowance – Home owners

In terms of the PSCBC Resolution 7 of 2015, Employees who are home-owners and have submitted proof of title deeds/Permission to occupy certificate including the affidavit that the immediate family occupy the house, are eligible to receive the housing allowance of R1200. This refers to new and old employees.

Housing Allowance – Tenants

Employees who are tenants and have submitted proof of rental/occupancy will receive the housing allowance as follows:

  • New employees, employed after 27th May 2015 (date of signing of Resolution 7/2015) – the R1200 which they were supposed to receive, will be diverted into the Individual Link Saving Facility.
  • Employees who were employed before 27th May 2015 and have been receiving R900, will continue to receive R900 (as per the 2007 Determination). The extra R300 will be diverted to the Individual Link Saving Facility.
  • Employees have an option to save the entire R1200 into the Individual Link Saving Facility.
